Story
It's done. The 6 months build up is all done and the race has been run. I loved every minute today. The atmosphere was just amazing. People in England are great. So many people cheering us on and making us feel brilliant as we went. Music everywhere. I recommend anyone to run, walk or get along and spectate at a marathon soon! And the build up and fundraising has been A lot of fin too. Thanks to everybody for all their amazing support and donations. You are all brilliant! A big thank you to my training pal Nicholas Richardson! Not sure I would have made it round without your motivation on those long training runs. Thanks to everybody for all your support! Xxx
24 hours to go... Now over £6500 raised. Thank you everybody for all your support! It's been amazing.
Just totted up my sponsorship forms to add that to my just giving page total and we have now raised a fantastic £5844 for each, so far! Thanks to everybody who has given so generously. Starting to get a bit nervous now about the actual run... 3 days to go!
Today was the last long run in training before next Sundays London marathon. 10 miles with Nicholas Richardson. After 5 months of arctic training in the subzero temperatures todays heat was a bit of a shock to my system. I have been hoping like everybody that winter would finally end, but now I wouldn't mind it coming back for just another week?
15 mile run this morning with Nicholas Richardson. Then 2 hours charity collecting in Norwich this afternoon. £93.34 raised to take me over £4500. A lot of this was from the mccawbers tavern boozers - thanks!
Longest training run today. 20 miles with Nicholas Richardson. And it hurt a lot. Pretty horrible 3 hours. Not so much chit chat as we ran today. 3 weeks to go...
Thank you to the 47 superstars who came out on this cold windy day to make it such a fantastic charity golf day for each. I had a lot of fun with a great bunch of lads who all gave very generously to raise £1000 today! Thank you all.
A good week. 43 miles run in training this week. A very generous £250 donation from Aviva through Alex Chaney took me to £3251 raised so far for each. Brilliant, thank you. And we should have almost 50 peolpe playing at each charity golf day tomorrow at barnham broom. Fingers crossed on the weather.
Big thank you to Poundland and Mortgage Advice Bureau for their donations this week which put me on £2951 raised so far. Only £49 to go to hit my target for each to run the marathon. Thank you
Blofield-South Walsham-Acle-Beighton-Lingwood-Brundall-Blofield. 15 miles (24k) done. And a quick rescue of a damsel in distress at the half way point as we push started a young ladies car (up hill!) Alger/Richardson: the 5th emergency service.
My ritual early Sunday morning pre long-run bowl of porridge is starting to get a bit boring. Forced it down though and now off for another 15 miler with Nicholas Richardson. Even though Going back to bed looks way more inviting.
15 miles (24km) with Nicholas Richardson this morning. 2h19m. I think we have learnt this morning not to trust a man without his glasses in the fog. Twice I led us astray. Including a special occasion near swardeston where I managed to miss 3 or 4 fairly large road closed signs. Sorry mate. Good run tho. Cheers
Went to the each treehouse hospice in Ipswich yesterday to pick up my race vest and see the fantastic work they do first hand. Check it out: http://www.each.org.uk/
I've just worked out I've run 172km so far in training over the last 2 months... And I think I need to do quite a bit more than that in the next 2 months...
Charity golf day Sunday 17th march - barnham broom. Tea, Coffee and bacon roll on arrival. Green fee. Dinner after. More freebies and prizes than you can shake a stick at! All for only £35 (with a healthy slice going straight to each)... Just let me know if you can make it? Thank you.
13 miles with Nicholas Richardson this morning. Didn't think I'd make it today after 8 hours on the go at the quiz last night but Legs felt ok actually.
£2000 raised last night! Fantastic. Thanks again to everybody.
Thank you to everybody who came to the quiz and made it so successful last night. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves? Thanks for spending and giving so generously! And a really big thank you to everybody who helped out, before, during and after the night and everybody who donated, baked, cooked, served, sold. You are all superstars and I really can't thank you enough.
Friday night intervals around chapelfield gardens in the snowy rain wasn't a lot of fun... Quiz night tomorrow will be tho! The pork roast is looking good, the ales are settling, the cakes are iced and the raffle is ready! See you all there.
Quiz night sold out! All tables booked up. Thanks to everybody who is coming. It should be a fun night. See you Saturday!
Quiz night raffle prizes so far- 2 tickets bewilderwood, 2 tickets Norwich castle, adnams chutney set, signed cookery book, 2 week passes to gym, 2 tickets to the ballet, 2 tickets to quayside plaza restaurant, family skate pass to Retroskate, family ticket to fakenham races, personal shopper experience at house of Fraser, plus quite a lot of bottles!... I know you can't wait to buy some raffle tickets? Any prizes donated on the night will be gratefully received. See you next Saturday.
£113 raised this afternoon with the help of Mandi mason.
1st Feb- Yesterday was a beautiful, balmy, sunny afternoon on the costa del Great Yarmouth, so I donned my new specialist running shorts for a lunchtime 7k along the golden mile (or 2 miles as it must be?). Chafing results (in case you're interested) = much improved! Now off for a park run 5k with Mandi mason and Simon field.

First run that really, really hurt (and is still hurting). 19k (almost 12 miles) and Nicholas Richardson set the pace at a gruelling tempo. 1h 46 and he had to drag me along for the last 2 miles. Legs are not in a good way... Marathon horror, reality kicking in...oh dear, what have I done.

15k this evening. Might be the longest I've ever run continuously? Bumped in to Si who then joined me for 5k which stopped it getting too boring. Cheers pal.

Just realised my first months training has only totalled 60k altogether?.. That's only slightly more than 1 marathon?.. Oh dear. Lots more to do.

First kind of competitive-ish race at the 5k park run at Eaton Park. Came home in a crowd pleasing 97th place.

First run that actually felt ok. Cold, wet and dark but actually felt pretty good. Still only 10k tho, so only about a quarter of the way.... Marathons are pretty long...
