Alex and I will be running the Great Manchester Run on 26th September 2021 in support of Bolton Neonatal Intensive Care Unit following the incredible support they gave to my family after the birth of our niece, Emilia Jayne.
Emilia Jayne was born on Christmas Day 2020, 7 weeks premature weighing just 4lbs 5oz. On arrival at the hospital, Mum was diagnosed as having COVID-19 and, soon after her birth, Emilia also received a positive diagnosis, making her the first baby in Bolton born with COVID-19. This meant that almost immediately after her birth, Emilia was taken to be looked after by the incredible staff at Bolton NICU while both Emilia and her Mum completed their periods of isolation. Not only did the NICU team provide an amazing level of clinical care to both Mum and baby, despite the new and challenging circumstances surrounding the birth, but the level of emotional and mental health support provided to the family was wonderful to see. It is this that has inspired Alex and I to run for Bolton NICU.
At the time of writing, Emilia Jayne is 4 months old and living life to its fullest. We cannot thank the staff at Bolton NICU and the volunteers who support them enough for all they did to ensure Emilia's safe arrival into the world.
