In 2005, the Venus Blazing Music Trust's Artistic Director, Deirdre Gribbin wrote a violin concerto which toured the UK. She arranged engagement workshops for young people from deprived communities. This led to the creation of regular music and theatre programmes for young people with Down Syndrome at the Park Theatre, Finsbury Park.
Starting with a core of 10 children, many dozens of young people and families have benfitted from participation in the programme, which has depended on indiviudal fundraising and small grants from trusts such as the John Lyons Trust.
During the Covid pandemic many of our participants were disproportionately affected by a lack of social, educational and communication opportunities. The Venus Blazing Music Trust held online sessions, which were a lifeline for many of them.
Autumn 2022 will see the first full tranche of new face to face live activity in two years. Donations during the current campaign will help enable this to happen.
