Story

Last year, Alfie and I were joined on our Walk for Wag - Anywhere by Ellie and her mum, Rebecca.  They decided to join us to say ‘thank you’ for the support Alfie had provided for Ellie, who was having a difficult time during the initial Lockdown in 2020. It also meant they could give a little bit back themselves.  Well, what a year it has been!

Not only has Alfie’s relationship with Ellie developed, but the evening after our walk, Ellie became a dog owner herself!

The gorgeous Ruby joined the Cleasby family and they haven’t looked back.  To top off this amazing journey, Ellie, Ruby and Rebecca have become a Wag Team themselves and have already begun visiting a local care home.

So this year, there will be 5 of us participating in the walk for Wag - Anywhere 2021.  Sadly, we are not able to join other Wag Teams at Kielder this year, but we are completing a similar challenging route on Saturday 28th August between Redcar and Saltburn.

We would be so grateful if you could spare a small amount to support the amazing work the Wag Teams do in communities across the North East to address loneliness and isolation within the community.

Please read the few words from Wag, below.

Thank your for your support in advance.

Loneliness and social isolation are chronic problems in the elderly in the North East. An estimated 50,000 pensioners in the region are chronically lonely and are 50% more likely to die prematurely than people with good social networks. This means loneliness is as big a mortality risk as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Many are dog lovers and when they ask for a furry friend from Wag & Company, they get the bonus of a very nice two legged one at the same time. By walking for Wag, anywhere you like, you can help us end loneliness for older dog lovers in our communities.
