Bath University Climb Kilimanjaro 2016, 8 June 2016

Story

Hi Everybody!

                   **** Text: DARV58 £5/£10 to 70070 ****

I will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in June 2016 to raise money for The Children's Society! It will be 6 days of hiking over 62km of terrain in blistering heat, freezing cold and potentially snow and with a huge amount of pain, blisters and sweat. There will be 30 of us doing the challenge, its no easy feat to reach 5895m but it will be worth it for the total amount we will raise for the Charity (collectively we all will raise at least 33,000 GBP). On top of the trek itself I will be doing other fundraising activities and putting myself through some pain, the most recent one being the Madrid Half Marathon on 23rd April.

To give you background to the charity, The Children's Society started in the 1800s and now protects and supports the UK's most vulnerable children and young people from poverty, abuse and neglect. Hopefully with our efforts it will continue to grow and extend it's reach to helping disadvantaged children.

An idea of who needs help: - 3.7 million children are living in poverty in the UK right Now, - Every 5 mins, a child runs away from home, - 100,000 children go missing every year, - 16,500 children are in danger of sexual exploitation.

One thing that I think is great about the charity is their focus on teenagers aged 15/17 where there is a gap between legal protection and maturity.

Within the target of £2990, part covers my costs of getting to the mountain and the rest goes directly to the charity and the children. I have decided to contribute this amount to cover my costs so all your kind donations go directly to the charity. Even if it is the price of one glass of wine, both myself and the Children's Society will really appreciate it.

Through your donations:

- £10 could train a volunteer to support one of 65,000 children living in care

- £25 can pay for a hot meal, shower and essentials for a runaway

- £50 can teach 10 children the signs of grooming and sexual exploitation.

For us tech savvy and time sensitive people: you can simply text DARV58 £5/£10 to 70070 which makes it very simple and easy to donate (UK numbers).

Thank you in advance and lots of love,

Steph :)

Also, I just wanted to say a big thank you to all those that have supported me in my previous fundraising efforts in the past few years, it has been very much appreciated and I hope you can all help me to make a difference to these children's lives by donating.
