Story
My Gran - Chrissie Moffat - never drank. Ever. Yet, still, she died this year from a particularly aggressive form of liver cancer. Never one to moan, she'd just gotten on with being in pain. When the doctors established what it was, the only thing to do was to manage her pain, and try to keep her comfortable as the cancer, inevitably, spread.
This is where Strathcarron's 'Hospice at Home' team came in. Their nurses performed a demanding, difficult job with boundless empathy and did their utmost to keep my poor Gran comfortable during her final few days at home. This is a service that is utterly invaluable for terminal patients, giving them the chance to have some control over their lives at the time they are most vulnerable and helpless.
As my stupid ankle is still not up for any super challenging physical exertion, James and I are going to "Go Sober" for October - over our first wedding anniversary - in memory of the strongest, kindest, most unselfishly generous matriarch I have ever known.
So, if you can spare some pennies, please donate. Let's help make sure that other people, faced with the horrendous news of terminal illness, can at least make their own final decisions.
