In 2014, my family and our friend started Sunrise Africa Relief as a way of giving back to the community in which we grew up. 

Sunrise Africa Relief is dedicated to finding practical solutions to the global problems of poverty, suffering and disease while promoting opportunities for long-term sustainable development for communities in need. One of its main programs so far is supporting the Barlastone Park School in Zambia.

Barlastone Park School is situated on the outskirts of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, and lies in one of the country's poorest districts. The school was built slowly by adding one classroom per year over a period of 14 years and finally became a full primary and secondary school in 1996. It currently caters for around 450 pupils with an average class size of 30 pupils. The school charges basic fees to cover teachers salaries and administration and maintenance expenses but depends on donations and sponsorship for development and expansion. 

As some of you may know, 2 co-workers and I ran the Edinburgh marathon in 2016 and raised enough money to drill and plumb a fully functioning water well.

This year, funds raised from a Tough Mudder my brother and 2 friends are running coupled with my half marathon in Washington, DC (in ridiculous heat and humidity) will help support the building of a new science block, which the school is currently lacking. The science block will allow students to carry out basic experiments and apply their learning in physics, biology and chemistry. Any and all donations will be gratefully appreciated.
