Dad,
There are no words that we can say,
That'll take this gut-wrenching pain away.
We can only be grateful for the precious time we had,
With an amazing man, our perfect Dad.
Time stood still the day we lost you,
A world without Dad, just doesn't seem true.
Your strength and your courage, I'll always be in awe.
The pain so deep, a pain never felt before.
To never hear you slurp a cup of builder's tea,
Or talk about the "big park", doesn't sit well with me.
The way all your dinners were eaten at a pace,
Like it was going to be taken off you,
It really wasn't a race!
Your ability to sing and perform is something to admire,
I'm sure you're up there with Jimi Hendrix singing "Let me stand next to your fire".
There’s no one else that can play Postman Pat and make it sound so cool,
We had to jump on the bed whilst you played it,
That was the only rule.
Your battle is over, it's now time to rest,
Our battle begins, coping without the best.
To live without you will be painful for us to bear,
All the amazing memories we made; a spitfire!
Who else would dare?!
Fly high in that spitfire Dad,
It's now where you belong,
Our beautiful Dad and Grandad,
We will all together be strong.
You never lost your battle, I'd just like to say,
The only people losing are us sat here today.
