I’m running this 10k to raise money for The Oliver Fisher Unit based at Medway Maritime Hospital.
This unit cares for extremely poorly babies whose life is in danger - wether this be from being born too soon or being poorly.
Sean’s sister Ami and her partner George have had to visit the ward on 2 separate occasions now, their first being in May 2017, when there baby Adam was born at 25 weeks. Unfortunately, Adam was just too little for this world and despite all the wonderful Doctors and Nurses efforts he passed away peacefully on the unit at 15days old.
The unit kept in touch with Ami and George throughout the year to get all the answers needed, to sort out medical appointments, to just ask how they were doing, and even attended Adam’s funeral. Adam now has a memorial plaque on the ward.
Staff have always been there for the both of them at any time including again recently in September 2018 when there second born (and my nephew) Jack, had to be admitted after being resuscitated at birth, again as soon as Ami and George walked onto the ward the staff all knew who they were, they all rallied round Jack and every single one of them spoke to them about Adam and remembered exactly who he was which brought massive comfort to them both.
After 9 days in there care Jack was finally ready to come home to be with his parents. Ami and George and all there family are incredibly grateful to everything OFU have done for them and the support they have been given.
