Hello everybody!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

As you are all aware, I'm currently studying in England at the University of Warwick. During my studies here, I’ve learned and experienced many new things and possibilties.

One of them is of special importance to me as well as to other children (I include myself as a „child“;-). I am raising donations for the internationally operating charity organisation “Save the Children” ( www.savethechildren.org ). This charity helps children around the world cope with their not really that exciting daily life, and provides them with means to go to school and to maybe even have a certain amount of leisure which, in nowadays' third-world countries and war-torn regions like Gaza, is even more than a luxury item.

Why I am doing this? Well, I like helping other people and especially weaker people like children. This might at first sound very unselfish, but in a certain way, there is an interest for me as well.

A couple of students of the University of Warwick Skydiving Club have organised what is going to be the biggest fundraising event in the history of English universities and have combined it with an attempt to break a world record: From the 6th to the 8th of March 2009, they will try to have 250 or more students jump out of planes, which on this scale would bring about an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

And - of course ;-) - I am going to be on board! I’m going to do a tandem jump, which means if everything (doesn’t) work(s) out, I will at least not be (crushed to pieces) all on my own. 

And, aye, there’s the point: Quite simply, I will only be able to do all this if I raise at least 300 pounds Sterling for “Save the Children” until the 11^th of February. One could choose between all the uncountable charities; I went for one promoting the care for children.

If you also would like to support my cause and that of the world’s poorest children by letting them profit from your (more or less existent?!) wealth, I would be more than grateful if you could just donate a certain amount you can imagine for yourself via this website. (As a rough guide only: If everyone could donate between 10 and 20 pounds, the goal would not at all seem unrealistic. And if it turns out that it is more than 300: All the better for the youngsters! Of course, you would certainly not have to donate at least 10 quid. As Tesco would proclaim on such an occasion:      "EVERY LITTLE HELPS.")

Hallo zusammen!

Während meines Studiums hier in England an der University of Warwick habe ich viel Neues erfahren und kennengelernt. Es gibt hier viel zu erleben und die Möglichkeiten sind vielfältig.

Eine davon hat für mich, aber auch für viele andere Kinder (ich rechne mich jetzt einfach mal ein als "Kind";-) eine besondere Bedeutung. Und zwar: Ich sammle Spenden für die weltweit operierende wohltätige Organisation "Save the Children" (zu Dt.: "Rettet die Kinder";  www.savethechildren.de ). Diese Organisation hilft Kindern auf der ganzen Welt dabei, ihren mitunter nicht so rosigen Alltag zu meistern, in die Schule gehen zu koennen und vielleicht auch ein bisschen Freizeit zu geniessen, die in Dritte-Welt-Ländern und Krisengebieten wie momentan Gaza wirklich mehr als ein Luxusgut ist.

Was ich davon habe? Nun, ich helfe gerne anderen Menschen und setze mich für Schwächere ein, besonders eben Kinder. Das klingt alles sehr uneigennützig, ich weiß. Ist es aber natürlich nicht ganz.

Ein paar Studenten aus dem Skydiving Club der Uni Warwick haben die größte Spendenaktion in der Geschichte englischer Universitäten organisiert und das Ganze mit einem Weltrekordversuch gekoppelt: Vom 6. bis 8. März 2009 werden sie versuchen, über 250 Studenten aus Flugzeugen springen zu lassen, was in dieser Größenordnung einen Eintrag ins Guinness-Buch der Rekorde bedeuten würde.

Und ich bin - natürlich ;-) - dabei! Ich werde einen Tandem-Sprung absolvieren, also wenn alles (nicht) klappt, bin ich wenigstens nicht allein (kaputt).

Jetzt wird's ernst: Natürlich darf ich das Ganze nur machen, wenn ich mindestens 300 englische Pfunde für "Save the Children" sammle,und das bis zum 11. Februar. Man konnte sich zwischen all’ den unzähligen Charities entscheiden; ich hab mir was für Kinderhilfe ausgesucht.

Wenn Ihr also ein Herz für Kinder habt, die Ärmsten der Welt ein bisschen an Eurem (mehr oder weniger vorhandenen?!) Wohlstand teilhaben lassen wollt und mir obendrein auch noch die Ehre erweisen wollt, mir einen Schubs aus der Flugzeugluke zu verpassen, dann würde ich mich sehr freuen, wenn ihr mir einen Betrag, den Ihr Euch selbst ausdenken duerft, überweisen würdet. (Kleiner Anhaltspunkt: Wenn jeder zwischen 10 und 20 Euro gibt, wäre das Ziel gar nicht so unrealistisch. Das tut Euch nicht weh, aber ein Kind in Gaza oder Afrika könnte dafür mehr als nur ein paar Schulbücher kriegen. Weniger ist natürlich auch total in Ordnung. Jeder Euro zählt. Und diese 300 Pfund sind nur ein Richtwert. Momentan entspricht das aufgrund des sehr von der Finanzkrise gebeutelten Pfundes einem Betrag von etwa 330 Euro. Also Umrechungskurs ca. 1 Pfund = 1,10 Euro. Und wenn's am Ende mehr wird als 300, geht es den Kindern deswegen ja nicht schlechter...)
