Story
'Cariad' was launched in both Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion on Friday 14th February 2020 and was created to recognise and congratulate our college "cariads". We also wanted to recognise and centralise the vast amount of excellent work that is done throughout the college when it comes to raising money for charities, volunteering, and doing anything valued in college or within our local communities. The random acts of kindness. Little did we know in February what was ahead of us and how a number of students would make such differences to their communities during this pandemic.
Also as part of the concept, we chose a college wide charity to support, as well as a local charity unique to each of the seven campuses. Our chosen college-wide charity this year is Wales Air Ambulance (WAA).
Our fundraising up to the point of lock-down was going pretty well and we had raised over £1000 in less than two months. To continue the fundraising for WAA via Cariad, Sarah Hopkins (Director of Recruitment and Progression) has very kindly offered to help us out. In Sarah's words:
I was out walking, having my hour of exercise, and saw a newly painted wall of graffiti at Swansea Rec.
STAY HOME
It communicates an important message at this challenging time, and is a stark reminder whilst we are all still on lockdown. I was inspired to capture the moment by creating a piece of work to reinforce and share the same message. It is vital we do not lose momentum, and stay at home wherever possible to protect the most vulnerable in our society and NHS.
The Wales Air Ambulance are a service that rely on the generosity of the public and fundraising, and this is often through face-to-face activity and public events. In response to the crisis in which we all find ourselves, they have launched an emergency appeal. I hope to play a small part in helping to raise funds for this worthy and essential cause, and all profits from this edition will be donated to their emergency appeal.
An edition of 15 screenprints, made by layering blocks of colour and printing through hand cut paper stencils. Printed onto 285gsm Rosapina paper, the image has been created using 14 separate stencils, all carefully registered on top of each other.
One print from the edition will be donated to Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, as Wales Air Ambulance is their chosen charity for 2019-20. The College will be encouraging donations, will draw a name from those who kindly contributed, and present them with the print. If you would like to enter the draw and see further details.
The link to the website to purchase one of these prints directly is:
As Sarah has very kindly donated a screenprint to the college, we intend to raffle this via donations to this JustGiving page. Please feel free to donate however much you wish, any donations of £5 or more will be entered into the draw. Donations of £10 will ensure two entries, £15 three entries etc.
Please ensure that you keep your name public but if you would rather make your donation anonymously, please email jamie.davies@colegsirgar.ac.uk with your name to ensure that you can still be entered into the draw.
The date of the draw will be announced shortly.
