Story
Ryan Troop is a football loving 8-year-old who lives in Surrey and plays for his local team Dorkinians.
After falling ill in April 2017, Ryan was diagnosed with a rare germ cell brain tumour and had brain surgery, chemo and radio therapies at the Royal Marsden and St Georges Hospitals during 2018.
The surgeons, doctors, nurses, specialists and support workers have all been wonderful and we are eternally grateful to them. Ryan responded well to treatment and following a clear MRI scan got to ring his End of Treatment Bell on Thursday 31st January 2019.
Throughout Ryan has been his usual bright and cheerful self, always smiling and never letting things get him down (even despite losing his hair)! Ryan’s treatment journey is shown through his beads of courage - with each one representing a procedure or an act of bravery - Ryan has 400+ beads!
Football and his team/school-mates have kept him going during his fight - Ryan had a lumbar puncture one Friday but was determined to play for his beloved Dorkinians the next day and scored a hat-trick!
After finishing treatment Ryan wanted to do something to help other children fighting cancer and raise money for the charities that have helped him so much. He came up with the idea of a Mini Tournament on World Cancer Day (4th Feb) instead of the usual Monday night training session, with 80 children attending and over £700 being raised. This JustGiving page was set-up to continue his fundraising.
