Story

On September 24th 2014, we received a phone call that no family wants to hear, our dear Brother and much loved Son Barrie, Just 24 years old had collapsed during a snooker tournament. During the phone call we were told that Barrie had been rushed by ambulance and that we needed to get to hospital as soon as possible. Myself and our mum arrived were we were taken into a family room to be told Barrie had a Catastrophic Brain Aneurism. Crazy to think that just hours before he was his happy, bubbly and smiling self working in the garden. Everything happened so quick and there was no time to think. Doctors asked us to go into the resuscitation department to identify Barrie were he lay in a bed whilst doctors prepared him for Brain Surgery. Being told that you have 2 minutes to say what you need to say before he was taken down. What do you say in that situation apart from telling him how much I love him and begging him to fight through this? Surgeons worked on Barrie right through the night into the early hours of Thursday 25th September. Waiting impatiently in the hospital corridors, praying and hoping that he would pull through! After hours of waiting finally the surgeon told us that the surgery went well and that Barrie was going on the intensive care unit and that we would be allowed to go in and see him once he was stable. The time had come for us to see our loved one but unfortunately as we entered the critical care unit, the machines went off and Barrie had a second bleed. At this time Barrie's future of a life was slim. Barrie was then put in a Coma for 24hrs to let his body rest. Friday 26th September, Doctors done tests to see if there was any response from Barrie but  my brother who I love dearly didn't respond and therefore was pronounced dead. Words cant describe the pain of losing someone so precious! The Doctors and Nurses at the Walton Centre were so caring and compassionate and I know they done everything they could. Even thou Barrie is no longer with us, we know that he is living on in other people as  we came to the decision to donate his organs, which Barrie saved 6 peoples lives! This has prevented six families from going through the pain and heartache we felt. So as the Walton Centre was the place that tried everything they could to save Barrie, this story is the reason I want to raise as much money as I can for them to carry on helping families. This is my way of saying Thank You!
