Fundraising for HemiHelp
Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am raising money for HemiHelp. Which is a charity dedicated to children & adults with Hemiplegia. Childhood Hemiplegia is a neurological condition, caused by damage to the brain befroe, during or after birth. The effects are similiar to those of a stroke and up to one in 1000 children can be affected.
Hemiplegia weakens one side of the body but the severity of the impairment varies from child to child. In one child the effects of Hemiplegia may be very obvious (he or she may have little use of one hand, may limp or have poor balance) ; in another child the effects will be so slight that it only shows when attempting specific physical actvities.
HemiHelp was established in 1990 by a samll group of parents and is now a small national charity, which has more than 2,500 members and supporters. Improving the quality of life for children with Hemiplegia and their families is central to the work of HemiHelp and the services they offer include a helpline, music and drama workshops, a home visiting service and the production of a wide range of information and advice leaflets, as well as a quartely news letter.
HemiHelp does not receive and statutory funding, and is heavily reliant on the money raised by it's supporters to continue to provide services for children affected by Hemiplegia and their families.
The reason I am raising money for HemiHelp, is that my little boy, Dominic has right-sided hemiplegia and cannot currently walk or stand unaided, because his hand and leg/foot are affected by it. My plan is (and this is going to be such a challenge for me) to go with out my mobile phone & facebook for 5 ENTIRE DAYS! Those people who know me will understand what a challenge this is going to be for me :) as I am very much a texter/caller and status updating addict!! I will be conducting this activity from TUESDAY JUNE 2ND 2009 TO THE END OF SATURDAY 6TH JUNE 2009.
