Story
As you may know my Dad died very suddenly just over a year ago from a catastrophic heart attack. The WAA attended very quickly and fought tirelessly to save him. We didn’t get a happy ending but I do believe that everything that could have possibly be done was done to help him and I take comfort in that, he was in the best hands we could have asked for.
I am running in these 2 events in his memory and also want to raise awareness for the amazing job that the WAA do. I’m sure they have made the difference for many other families.
Not only can the WAA get to emergencies far more quickly than an ambulance but they also carry more specialist kit. The air ambulance crew are also more trained so in many circumstances make the difference between life and death.
I am lucky enough to work across the road from their base and have met the guys who are just so humble and grateful for any donation big or small. My heart sinks a little when I see the helicopter fly out because I know there’s a family out there going through the same as us but like I said they are absolute heroes and that family is lucky to have them helping!
Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a charity that provides an essential Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) across Wiltshire and surrounding counties. It needs to raise £3.75m a year to continue saving lives, but is not directly funded by the Government and receives no National Lottery funding, so relies on generous public donations.
