Story
I am taking part in Total Warrior in August, along with my colleagues and tenants, in a bid to raise money for The Christie - an amazing hospital, with amazing staff, who do amazing things.
In 2016 I met a man called Doug. Doug was my bosses dad, but soon became somebody I classed as a dear friend. Most days we would meet up for a coffee and he would tell me hilarious stories about what he'd done throughout his life, a life that sadly was brought to an end far too soon due to cancer. I have never met anybody before that had cancer, which is a surprise since 1 in 3 of us will develop cancer at some point in our lives, and I was horrified to see how quickly the cancer took Doug from being an active, able, vibrant and independent man, to a man who could not do anything for himself without assistance. I'm talking only a matter of weeks.
This is where the Christie came in. Doug was admitted there and despite this being an awful time in his and his families lives, they did their best to care for him and he spoke of how much he liked his nurses (especially the pretty ones 😉). The Christie and the amazing people working there spend all day every day helping patients with cancer, caring for them, making them comfortable, but also trying to find a cure to stop this from attacking our friends and family.
We need to do as much as we can to help the Christie so that they can continue to help us and our loved ones. Please donate! It's so so so important!
RIP Doug, a very special friend xxx
