We care for all those affected by Behçet's to fight this rare and complex condition

Story

I was diagnosed with Behcets about 6 months ago after years of struggle. Behcets is classed as a rare disease (2000 people effected in the UK), therefore many doctors and specialists do not know much about it.

Behçet’s is a chronic condition resulting from disturbances in the body’s immune system. This causes unpredictable outbreaks of unwanted and exaggerated inflammation. This extra inflammation affects blood vessels of all sizes, including arteries and veins. As a result, symptoms occur anywhere there is a blood supply (organs, joints etc) - from the brain down to the feet. Behcets is incurable at present but some symptoms can be managed.

I want to help raise awareness for Behcets so other people do not have to wait as long as I did for a diagnoses and treatment. I also know that the money will make a massive difference to this small charity.

Since becoming unwell my active, sporty life was put on hold. With medication to help suppress some of my symptoms, I am able to do more again. Exercising helps me in so many different ways but at times its really tough. Doing little races throughout the year for a charity close to my heart will give me something to strive for. My main goal is to compete in my first triathlon in September.
