Story

St.Marys GAA/ Enniskeane Camogie- Run4Pieta

On this weekend coming, starting Saturday May 16th at 7:30pm and concluding Sunday May 17th at 7:30pm, St.Marys GAA and Enniskeane Camogie Club will be co-hosting a 24 Hour Fundraising Run in aid of Pieta House. Links to the fundraiser/Donation page can be found on both club social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Players from the adult teams of both clubs will each run a half hour slot over the course of the 24 hours while adhering to government guidelines on the 5km exercise radius and social distancing. It will take the format of a friendly competition between 2 mixed teams of Enniskeane/St.Marys players. The goal is simple: clock up more kilometres than the other team. Progress of both teams can be followed on both club’s social media pages which will be posting regular updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our overall target however is to accumulate as many kilometres as possible. To do this we are asking everyone in the community to get involved and participate in a run/walk/cycle at your own leisure anytime between 7:30pm Saturday and 7:30pm Sunday evening. We encourage you to get out regardless of fitness or age and of course regardless of how far/short of a distance you wish to undertake as every step helps. After your exercise of choice we would like you to post your distance and/or a selfie to one of either clubs social media platforms, and any donations to the Pieta Fundraiser page would be greatly appreciated. The fundraiser page will also be linked to the Strava Running App which can be downloaded onto all smartphones and measures the distance travelled.
Our clubs decided to participate in the Run4Pieta as Pieta House is a charity run organisation which does tremendous work for Suicide Prevention/ Mental Health services in Ireland. Unfortunately this year due to the unprecedented circumstances the charities main fundraiser Darkness into Light couldn’t be run in its usual format and really needs all the support it can get. Furthermore, as well as raising much needed funds for Pieta House, we hope the run boosts well-being and moral in our own community. After all there is no greater way to clear the head and maintain mental wellbeing than exercise and fresh air. In these strange times we may not be able to physically gather as a community, but in spirit we can prove closer than ever.
