Story
In 2016 we lost Matt Greenwood, member of SEHBC, to bone cancer. Since then, the boat club have run a yearly BBQ on Saturday of Summer 8s in Matt's memory to raise funds for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Although in these circumstances it may seem like the world has come to a stop, unfortunately cancer and its treatment has not, so it is more important to us than ever to run an annual event for BCRT.
SEHBC was founded in 1861, so we have therefore tasked ourselves with exercising 1861km in just one day on Saturday 16th May. Together, both members and alumni, will be running, cycling and erging as far as we can, challenging ourselves individually to go further and push harder. For those who are unable to leave home, we will be running a time equivalent for anything from weight training to Zumba. We will be posting updates on both our JustGiving page and Facebook event throughout the day.
If you are taking part or know someone who is please consider donating to our cause, if you are able. From the cost of a burger you would have bought from the BBQ to the amount waived for Trinity subs, we would be grateful for anything you could contribute towards our goal.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
