Following on from the huge success of last years 24hr charity run where we raised nearly £5000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance, St Austell Athletes Running Club have decided to attempt another 24hr running  event to raise vital funds for a charity very close to their heart.

The Sunrise Appeal is an independent charity launched at the Eden Project in 2000 with the original aim of raising £500,000 towards the cost of a new Clinical Oncology Department in Truro called the Sunrise Centre. The centre opened in Spring 2002 meaning that patients no longer had to travel to Plymouth for treatment. The Charity has continued to raise funds to ensure that the centre maintains its state of the art status. This fantastic charity strikes at the heart of so many people with friends or family who have had treatment for cancer within Cornwall. Many charities have been hit by the global pandemic and reduced contributions and the Sunrise Appeal is no different.

So… on Saturday 14th August, commencing at 8pm, St Austell Athletes Running Club will begin a 24hr running fundraiser at St Austell Cricket Club. Teams of runners will complete continuous laps of the cricket ground over the 24 hr period, undertaking as many laps as possible, and most importantly, raising hundreds of pounds for such an important, local cause. In addition, members of the club from outside the county will also be entering as a ‘virtual team’ over the 24hr period. As a Virtual Running Club, St Austell Athletes Running Club boasts and welcomes members from across the country and all are keen to be involved for such a worthy cause.
