Sea Survival Training Centres - 24 hours in a life raft

Sea Survival Training Centre - 24 hours in a life raft · 20 May 2022
The staff at the ‘Sea Survival Training Centre’ situated at Horsea Island, part of the Phoenix Training Unit at HMS Excellent are aiming to raise money for the RNRMC by spending 24 hours afloat in a 25 person life raft whilst only consuming the food rations contained within.
So, why are we doing this - 30,000 personnel lost their lives during the abandonment phase of Naval vessels during the Second World War alone. Unfortunately, this was due to poor training and the lack of life saving equipment.
We at SSTC would like to honour the service personnel who have unfortunately lost their lives at sea. With the advancement in technology regarding lifesaving equipment, partnered with the robust, professional training and knowledge delivered at SSTC - chances of survival at sea during abandonment are much greater. Due to natural causes, peacetime incidents and wartime, abandonment is still a possibility in todays armed forces. Service personnel may find themselves afloat in a life raft for up to 24 hours. Team SSTC will replicate this whilst only consuming the food rations contained within, in doing so - we honour those lives lost at sea.
