Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and to raise awareness of Veterans and, in particular, Veterans Healthcare in Brighton.
The Chavasse Clinic, which I founded and run at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, started after a chance encounter with a veteran from my grandfather's regiment on Armed Forces Day in 2016, who had been struggling to get a pain clinic appointment for 18 months and had subsequently become dependent upon a wheelchair. Since then, we have seen hundreds of Veteran patients with both simple and complex health problems, as well as Service Personnel who are current Regulars and Reservists, often helping direct them to other charitable organizations such as SSAFA for ongoing support beyond the scope of the NHS.
I am walking with my body armour and daysac traversing the 5 War Memorials within Brighton and Hove to serve as a metaphor for the physical and mental burden that Service Personnel and Veterans carry on behalf of this country.
