Story
Completing a 100-mile ride (aka century ride) is a popular training goal for many cyclists. Some consider it a cycling equivalent of running a marathon. As a neophyte to the sport of cycling (circa COVID 2020) and a finisher of San Francisco and Las Vegas Full Marathons, I was immediately captivated by the goal of completing my first century ride.
It's been exactly one year since COVID-19 lockdowns began in the US. During these difficult times, violence against communities of color and hate crimes against AAPI communities further exacerbated the impact of COVID-19 on these communities.
For my first century ride, I will be riding to raise funds for Summer Search Bay Area, a non-profit empowering underserved youths to thrive in school and life. This century ride is not only a Herculean undertaking (I'm way out of shape for this!) but also an opportunity to give to an organization that is directly addressing inequality across our local communities. You can learn more about Search Search below or at summersearch.org.
This is a self-supported ride across the greater Seattle area. The weather in Seattle is predictably unpredictable. Currently, I'm scheduled to ride on Saturday, March 27th (59F and mostly sunny). You will be able to follow my progress on Strava via this page or at IG@sugarb92.
I hope you will join me by donating to Summer Search. Thank you!
