Story
In spring 2019 I was partnered with an incredible assistance dog, Wilko, by Canine Partners. Having been disabled for 14 years life was very difficult as I depend on other people for even the simplest of tasks. The amazing dogs trained by Canine Partners bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and fetching help in an emergency. These life-transforming dogs also provide psychological and social benefits including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.
Wilko has changed my life beyond all recognition and it is my greatest desire that others with disabilities should be able to benefit from a Canine Partner. Covid-19 has hit Canine Partners hard, in terms of training dogs, creating partnerships and very importantly, fundraising. A working partnership costs upwards of £20,000 from beginning to end and the charity relies solely on donations.
Because of this my lovely mum, Carolyn, came up with the idea of a sunflower race to raise money - she has planted six sunflowers and each one has the name of a dog trained by Canine Partners. This is just for fun but to take part, make a donation and tell us which flower you think will win! There is no prize (except the glory of victory) but we do hope to post regular flower updates and photos! Anything you can donate, big or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
