Story

ROUND TWO!

We are James Reilly and Ted Simpson.

For those that don't know (even though we've spammed everyone about it to kingdom come), last year we set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of Loch Ness in a tandem kayak.

We also raised over two thousand pounds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Since we love being ridiculously overambitious, and have just about forgotten just how painful the Loch Ness Challenge was, we've returned to the drawing board and cooked up another mad challenge to underestimate this year, and try and raise even more for CF.

It was pretty hard to step up from a world record but we think we have managed to create a challenge with a whole new set of demands:

We will be trying to canoe down the River Spey in Scotland in the fastest recorded time.

So what’s so hard about that?

The River Spey is the fastest flowing river in Scotland, and we will be setting off from Kingussie, 120km away from the sea. To put that in perspective we will be attempting to canoe a distance about 4 times greater than Loch Ness, all the while negotiating rapids along the way. This challenge is very much a question of endurance.

We have spent the last year researching this route (sort of) and have found that a few people have been mad enough to attempt a continuous descent. Of those few, the fastest time was recorded at 13 hours and as such is the time we have set ourselves to beat.

13 hours of constant paddling isn’t going to be a barrel of laughs so it would be amazing if we could raise as much money as possible for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust in the process. We’ve chosen this charity again as it is both close to our hearts and the work they do is amazing, there’s currently no cure for this debilitating disease and any step closer in that direction is a step closer to improving thousands of young peoples' lives.

Let’s hope we haven’t bitten off more than we can chew...
