Story
Those who know me, know that I’ve overcome significant obstacles in my life, and how passionate I am about trying to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. You’ll also know that I love a good challenge. This time it’s a BIG ONE. My first ever MARATHON to raise vital funds and awareness for a truly outstanding charity: Royal Society for Blind Children.
Life on its own merits can be challenging enough but imagine living with visual impairment or blindness, and as a result, facing significant disadvantage: bullying, exclusion, isolation, depression, mental health issues, discrimination, unemployment, poverty… and the reality faced by many of never having a meaningful relationship.
However, there is hope. RSBC offers a dedicated Families First service, with a Family Engagement Worker supporting the whole family as soon as possible after sight loss diagnosis to help provide the best possible environment for their child to grow and thrive. They also help blind children and young people to develop confidence, independence and employment skills through a range of educational programmes and activities.
It costs just £2,000 for a Family Engagement Worker to support one family for a year.
My commitment to Royal Society for Blind Children is to run 26.2 miles at this year’s London Marathon to raise vital funds for Family Engagement Workers to provide life changing support services, and with your help as a sponsor, I believe we can make a HUGE difference.
And did I mention that every sponsor will be running the marathon with me?! Ok breathe… not literally… more on that later… and of course you’re more than welcome to come along on the day to show your support.
