Story

This team of riders are taking part in the London 100 cycle ride to raise awareness of what Special Effect can do and to raise much needed funds to help them help others.

Rob Camms story

Rob, 19 years old and sports mad, was waiting to go to University to study Politics, Philosopy and Economics when he suffered a broken neck which left him paralysed from the neck down and dependent on a ventilator to breathe. Unable to speak or eat initially, how can one see a future that is worth living?

A fantastic NHS kept Rob alive and then it was SpecialEffect that helped make it possible to see there was a way forward and a life worth living.

Mick Donegan their CEO spent many days in ICU with Rob initially setting up eyegaze control of computers for gaming and then as time moved on, eyegaze, voice and switch technology to enable full control of all modern day IT. They still help Rob today the latest being a head switch activated whistle for rugby coaching.

This help from Special Effect enabled Rob to go to university one year later, move through law school and then in 2022 he was awarded Law Student of the Year at the Bristol Law Society Annual Awards. Rob trained and now works at Osborne Clarke solicitors in Bristol.

Outside work, the added technology along with some I can do it" determination has seen Rob reach the summit of mountains (Pen y Fan and Snowdon) and go to the Houses of Parliament to receive a Special Recognition Award from Premiership Rugby for his wheelchair rugby coaching at Bristol Bears.

Any support you can give will be very much appreciated.
