Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

What do you say to your 19 year old sports mad son when as a result of a road accident he has been left paralysed from the neck down and on a ventilator?

What do you say to him when has already spent 70 days  lying on his back able only to gaze at the ceiling tiles?

Well one of the things you can say is that ‘Mick and Hannah from SpecialEffect are coming in today!

What a game changer that was!

SpecialEffect cut through hospital bureaucracy installed the required kit in intensive care, sat patiently by Rob’s bedside coaching him to use eye gaze and then went on to quite simply transform his life.

Mick and the team from SpecialEffect have been beside Rob all the way from him being in hospital,  to coming home, to going to university and Law School and on to starting work. On 6th March 2022 Rob qualified as a solicitor – he coaches wheelchair rugby for Bristol Bears and enjoys time with his friends.

SpecialEffect didn’t just change Rob’s life – they changed mine too. From the darkest of days through to today – there will never be the right words to say thank you.

So being a practical bloke I thought I would get on my bike with some special mates and take on RideLondon 100 to raise as much money as I can for this unbelievably special organisation. I would be very grateful if you could lend your support as well and make a donation to the game changing charity so that they can go on with their amazing work. All their good work and loan of equipment is done free of charge.
