Story
To follow the steps of Reg Harris,
I'm riding from London to Paris
And should I need to hurry
I'll down a hot curry
And be propelled by flames out me arris.

Seven years ago, Anthony Nolan searched halfway around the world to find the bone marrow donor who saved my wife's Melissa life. Her bone marrow transplant gave us our future back, and she was just one of thousands of recipients Anthony Nolan help every year. I've been supporting her fundraising efforts for them ever since, but now I want to give something back myself.
In July of 2017, I'll be riding from London to Paris over three days. That's 240 miles, which is twice as far as the longest ride I've ever done, and frankly I'm bricking it. I'm willing to trade knackered knees, trashed thighs and an annihilated... um, bottom, for the chance to help more people get a chance to live.
As well as raising money for Anthony Nolan I also want to dispel some myths about bone marrow donation, so if you don't want to donate you can still help by shouting about this stuff:
Registering is quick, easy and painless; all you have to do is spit into a little tube and put it in the post (please use the tube that Anthony Nolan provides, don't just send random tubes of spit to them).
If you're ever called on to donate, 90% of cases can be done through a machine that works like a blood transfusion and is also quick, easy and painless.
And while I'd encourage everyone to join the register, they really really need non-white people to sign up because it's much harder to find matches for people who are mixed-race, and more variation in genetic markers gives a much greater chance.
So please, give generously, join the register (head over to the Anthony Nolan website to get them to send you a portable spittoon), and bust those tired old myths about bone marrow donation. Thanks!
