Story
Update - 22/09/2011
So I did it! I managed to run the whole 13.1 miles without stopping or walking. My official chip time was 2hrs 22 mins 05 secs, not quite up to elite standard yet but I was pretty happy with that!

I’d like to think that you came to this page because you want to sponsor me and support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, although I realise that in reality it’s that you want to see if the rumour is true and that I really am going to be running the 13.1 miles that is the Great North Run, and of course to sponsor me and support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as well!
What I'm doing
Well, I can confirm that I will be taking part in the Great North Run and I would really love it if you could sponsor me as I take on this challenge, which will be no walk in the park for me. I’m not made for running with my short, wonky legs and face that goes bright red after jogging for 50 metres (54.68 yards for you oldies out there) let alone a half marathon, but I’m determined to do it as it will be nothing compared to going through treatment for a blood cancer or losing a loved one to it. If we can raise even a little money to go towards research into finding causes, better treatments with fewer side-effects and cures for this disease, then it’s worth all the pain I’ll be in during my training and then during and after the Great North Run itself.
Why you've reached this page
Blood cancers include leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and they are responsible for more deaths in the under 35's than any other cancer. Blood cancers can affect anyone of any age, gender or race. Working for this incredible charity, I can't tell you how many times I've cried at my desk from the stories I've read from people who have had their lives turned upside down because of blood cancer; people who have lost their babies to it, children being brave enough to go to school on days they aren't having chemo even though they are sick, exhausted and may have lost their hair, teenagers missing out on their important school years to have their treatment, or having to care for a parent with a blood cancer. I could go on but I also want to tell you about the success stories I hear where people are now in remission or have had children despite being told they were unlikely to be able to due to the side effects of the treatments, people who have seen their children grow up in years they thought they wouldn’t have and people who are so grateful for the research that has been done that means they are still here today.
As I struggle through the streets of Newcastle, I'll be thinking of my gorgeous best friend who lost her little brother to leukaemia and all the amazing people I've had to honour to support through my work for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
If you can spare a little to help others, or just because you want to sponsor me to ensure I do the half marathon, I’d be really grateful. I may even do it in fancy dress if I get enough sponsorship!
