Story
Our beautiful Sophie girl was a perfect 3 year old, loving and living her best life when an explosive, and now drug resistant, epilepsy entered our lives in July of 2021. In that time, she’s tried 7 medications, had 12 hospital stays and has undergone several tests to find a cause of her epilepsy. Not knowing what is causing Sophie’s epilepsy is part of what has made it so difficult to treat. We have brought her all over the country to some of the best epilepsy centers in the US and the world, but have yet to find a treatment that works and a cause of her severe epilepsy.
This is why I felt compelled to sign up to run the 2022 Chicago Marathon with the CURE Epilepsy foundation. While epilepsy is one of the most common neurologic disorders worldwide, epilepsy research is woefully underfunded. CURE has raised critical research dollars that have gone towards crucial epilepsy research, including grants awarded to the National Institute of Health.
Through it all, Sophie has not lost her sweet nature and has put up a brave fight. Her epilepsy is relentless, but so are we! Help me raise money for CURE and help children and adults suffering from epilepsy like Sophie.
