KOP Student Programme 2014 · 1 July 2014 ·
What am I doing?
In August, I will be going to Kisumu for two weeks to volunteer with the Kenyan Orphan Project. As part of the programme, I need to raise a minimum of £800 by July 1st. I have signed up to run the Plymouth Half Marathon in April and I would be incredibly grateful if you would sponsor me.
What will your money be spent on?
Your money will support orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya and will not fund my trip / cover my expenses in any way.
Kenya is a country with over 7 million primary school-aged children who face significant challenges due to poor health and disease. Around 2,500,000 children in Kenya have lost one or both parents from poverty and AIDS.
In Kenya, your donation goes a long way. Just £25 can provide school meals for three children for a whole month!
What is the Kenyan Orphan Project?
KOP is a UK registered charity committed to supporting the health and education of orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa. Our projects and partners are currently focussed in western Kenya.
Linked to the project work in Africa is an active UK student programme in which KOP university groups provide direct support for projects. Through participation in projects and the KOP student programme students gain education and experience of global child health.
As Surrey doesn't have a KOP branch, I will be working with students from Manchester University.

Why do I want to go?
My Mum and sister went to Kisumu with KOP in 2006 and after hearing about the amazing work that the charity does out there, I wanted to get involved with it too. My parents have supported a couple of young people living in Kisumu and after being in contact with one of them for several years, I would love the opportunity to meet him myself.
