Story
I'm going to Kenya for 10 weeks this Summer to work in a school over there to help improve its facilities with a charity called Keny Education Partnerships (KEP). The project sends 20 students over each year and has been very successful in the past. To be able to go I need to raise £2000 which will go towards the cost of flights, accomodation, living costs and includes £850 which goes towards the school itself. Usually the money for the school is spent on things like textbooks, books/shelving for libraries, science equipment (e.g. test tubes, chemicals), sports equipment etc and can make a real difference to the success of the school. The reason we don't just send the money over is that in being there in person we can direct the money wherever it is needed most in that particular school, rather than sending over a load of textbooks that might not be relevant to that school's syllabus or allowing the teachers to decide what to do with the money (in the past they've requested a television and a staff football kit).
Any money you can give would be massively appreciated since I've got a lot of money to raise. I'm doing the Reading half marathon on 29th March this year and since I don't do any form of sport, never mind hard core running, it's going to be pretty tricky for me, so any form of sponsorship you can manage would be a massive encouragement.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got about the project via email: sophie.burns@exeter.ox.ac.uk
Thank you for your support
