As most of you know, I lost my brother last August at the age of 19 who suffered from a muscle-wasting disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This year I’m challenging myself to run the Bristol 10k in his memory to raise awareness and money for MD UK - for some people this doesnt sound a lot, but people who know me most know I’ve never run for longer than two mins ona treadmill! I will have some support from a great friend Billy who is also running alongside me and helping me train!
Mitch, my brother, was diagnosed from the age of around 8 with Duchenne MD the worst type of MD you can get, with an average life expectancy of mid 20s. However, this never stopped him, he lived his life to the full and did most things people would have never done ina full lifetime yet alone just 19 years.
He was a through and through Bristol City supporter, loved cooking and trying out all the restaurants he could! We visiting Florida in 2009 and he even got the opportunity to go to the Champions League Final in Germany (his biggest dream).
As some people dont know, I’m also a carrier of this gene and count on people to donate for vital research so I can eliminate this gene from our family in the future.
If you could donate as little or as much as you can, it will all help fund research and give support to families living with the condition. We have every thing crossed for them to find a cure for this terrible condition.
