Great North Swim for the Dementia Fund at Dorset County Hospital

Great North Swim 2022 · 10 June 2022 to 12 June 2022 ·
On the 10th of June 2022 I will be swimming 2 miles across Lake Windermere in the Great North Swim to raise money for the Dementia Fund at Dorset County Hospital.
Research shows there are more than 850,000 people in the UK who have Dementia. One in 14 people over the age of 65 have Dementia, and the condition affects 1 in 6 people over 80.
The number of people with Dementia is increasing and it is estimated that by 2025, the number of people with Dementia in the UK will be more than 1 million.
For the last 6 months I have had the privilege of working with an amazing team as a Dementia and Delirium support worker at Dorset County Hospital. As part of my role I help to screen patients who have a suspected Delirium, with or without a diagnosis of Dementia. This is important as we are then able to signpost patients and their families to the right services for onward diagnosis and support where needed. I’m also fortunate enough to be able to spend one-to-one time with patients living with Dementia who require additional support and care. This experience has really opened my eyes to how important it is to give these patients the time and advocacy they so rightfully deserve.
The money raised from this event will go directly to those patients with Dementia to improve their experience and to support them and their families during their stay in hospital.
I am extremely proud to be raising money for such a good cause and all donations will be gratefully received!
