Story
After 2018 I swore I wouldn’t run another marathon, in fact I gave up running all together, but here we are and it’s for a bloody good reason!
My dearest pals experienced the Evelina children’s hospital first hand when last year their beautiful 12 week old baby boy was unexpectedly rushed in for emergency heart surgery. Their lives changed in an instant and overnight the Evelina became their home for three months.
At the Evelina, through the NHS they were given access to the best surgeons, consultants and intensive care nurses who worked around the clock to save their son’s life. Simply put, without them he wouldn’t be here today. Not only did they offer such amazing medical care, they all went above and beyond to be there for my friends and get them through the worst experience of their lives. And he still continues to receive amazing care in follow ups - which he will do into adulthood and the rest of his life.
They do this day in day out for thousands of children and families. They really are a remarkable charity.
But that’s it they are a charity (how the hell can this be?!) It’s the sheer dedication of the team at the Evelina keeps it running and they could really do with our help (as let’s face it, the government aren’t doing much!)- they rely on the kindness of people like YOU to sponsor idiots like ME running stupidly long distances.
It all felt like a fever dream (and that was just me on the outside) but it was bitterly real and made us all feel so effing thankful for the NHS.
So, go forth, pledge a pound, pledge a hundred, no matter the amount every little really does help.
Big love 🫶🏼
