Story
UPDATE - Jan 3rd: We did it...the pics show Lu and me before (at the end of our garden) and after, as we skipped out of the sea trying to spot Richard and Sophie, our lovely support crew...I’ll leave this page up for a while (I’ve just heard it’s a “top fundraiser” - in the 5% highest fundraisers on Just Giving this month). Lu’s Facebook fundraiser for Weldmar is also still current (find it via www.weld-Hospice.org.uk) - she’s committed for the whole month as a birthday fundraiser...we’ll be sea-swimming once a week til Feb. A friend sent me a wonderful poem today. Sharing its last verse here, with all my love, my darling man:
“May you continue to inspire us: To enter each day with a generous heart. To serve the call of courage and love Until we see your beautiful face again In that land where there is no more separation, Where all tears will be wiped from our mind, And where we will never lose you again.”
Oh my...within just a few hours, wonderful people enabled the target to be reached...So this is where Simon would say “For goodness sake don’t stop now...”....Let’s make this his Captain Tom moment, and help ensure that nobody ever dies in pain, alone, or without the care they need. The strength of his love lives on and he makes me so so proud.
My darling Simon always did everything bigger, better, bolder....When I realised the Lyme Lunge would raise money for the incredible Weldmar Hospicecare, I thought I probably better get cold and wet on New Years Day to support them. When their truly wonderful Lyme community nurse Lu Worrall, who looked after Simon at home, told me she was planning to Lunge for the first time......and wouldn't be wearing a wetsuit....I knew I had to get serious about this. So, on New Years Day (very reassured that Lu will be there too and accompanied by the wonderful Ed and Giselle of Lyme’s Strawberry Tree) I’ll head into the sea, dressed in Simon’s flamingo swimming shorts (which he always said would go in the water in Lyme Bay once a year) and his boatbuilding beanie hat (illustrated....). And I’m setting up this page with just a few days to go and a ridiculous fundraising target because I can hear Simon telling me to do it because really good end of life care, as he received from Weldmar, matters so much. As I said at the start, he did everything bigger, better and bolder...and he still does. I love you Simon...keep me warm on Saturday....❤️❤️
