If you’ve watched 24 Hours in A&E, you’ll know that King's College Hospital is one of four Major Trauma Centres in the south of England. You may also know that trauma is the biggest killer of under 40s in the UK.
But did you know that when seriously injured patients arrive at KCH by helicopter, they land in a park nearby, with patients transferred to the hospital by ambulance? This can take as long as 25 minutes.
In a medical emergency, every second counts.
If KCH had its own helipad, doctors could start treating seriously injured patients more quickly. And this will save lives.
