Story
My dad was a prison officer for over 30 years and with only 2 years of retirement under his belt, his life and our whole family’s was forever changed. My dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Unfortunately shortly after this first diagnosis we were told it had spread outside of the bladder. After only undergoing one set of chemo treatment my dad was admitted to hospital, due to covid, this meant we were not able to see him for a whole month. Following this, my dads conditioned declined and it was arranged for him to come back home for the remainder of his life so we could be with him and ensure he was comfortable. Therefore the help of the Severn hospice and other support care was so very important to allow my dad his last few months of comfort and to be surrounded by his family.
My dad had a short but brave battle with cancer. It brings me great sadness to now say he is no longer with us. My family and I were overcome with the support we received during the most challenging time of my dads journey. With great deliberation due to the volume of many charities doing wonderful things relating to cancer and support care, we decided to raise money for the Severn hospice.
My dad was full of life, and the integrity he had was beyond inspiring and this world is going to miss such a one in a million of a man.
