Story
I lost a cousin to this condition, he went into a diabetic coma. I was only around young when it happened, but still have very vivid memories to remind me of how full of life and genuine he was. Now, my partner has type 1 diabetes and has done for over a decade. It is something that he manages well, and he rarely runs into trouble, but I still worry about the long-term complications of his sugars running high, that might affect him in later life, which is heightened by what happened to our family previously.
I want to support the work that JDRF do in research and help us get closer to finding a cure. It is important that we understand the causes of type 1 diabetes, especially as the UK has one of the highest rates of type 1 diabetes in the world. I hope that the money I raise can help go towards improving the treatments today and ultimately find a cure in the future. Recently a new ‘smart’ insulin pen was released which tells someone when they last took it and how much they took- even just little improvements make a big difference to everyday life for someone with diabetes.
I have never ran a marathon before so this is a big challenge for me and one for me to tick off the bucket list . . . any support would be amazing!
Lots of love
Sophie
