In 2010 I lost my Dad to Oesophageal Cancer after only a short battle with the disease. My Dad had suffered from Barrett’s Oesophagus for many years, a condition our family knew little about even during the years he was poorly from this.  

My Dad was a truly lovely, kind man, who worked hard to give me and my sister the best childhood we could ask for. He had many friends and was loved by all that knew him for his sense of humour and trickster ways (even the jokes that went on for hours). He always put other people first and loved a pint/whisky down the local.

I feel that had our family known more about Barrett’s Oesophagus and Oesophageal Cancer we would have been more aware of treatments for this condition and the support that was available to us.

It is now responsible for around five per cent of all cancer deaths, making it the fifth most common cause of cancer yet its profile is not as high as other cancer types. I want to raise awareness for this to make sure people understand this common deadly disease.

The money made fundraising for Barrett’s Campaign goes to help support research to better understand Barrett’s Oesophagus, provide support and advice to Barrett’s Oesophagus sufferers and their relatives and friends and raise awareness of the condition to encourage early detection

That is why on the 1ST APRIL 2012 I am running the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for this great cause. Please sponsor me to help towards my target of £200. Every penny counts!!!!
