Story
I’m going to be raising money for Meningitis Research Foundation, whose aim is to defeat meningitis by 2030. This is an epic goal for them to be working towards. Therefore, I’ve decided to match their goal by doing the epic challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro, the largest free-standing mountain in the world.
Meningitis is a horrible disease whose main targets are babies and young children and young adults specifically university freshers. Meningitis is an infection of the brain and spinal cords protective layer, the meninges. Meningitis can cause memory loss, coordination problems, deafness, seizures, paralysis, speech problems and vision problems. The germs that cause meningitis can also spread into the blood stream causing septaemia, which can lead to kidney and lung damage and amputations. 20% of people who contract meningitis have life-long difficulties and health problems. I know people personally who have been affected by meningitis and have seen how much their lives have changed since, but they count themselves as the lucky ones because 15% of people who get meningitis die from it.
Therefore, it would really mean a lot to me if you would be able to donate something even if it’s not a lot as every little can help defeat meningitis in the next 10 years.
Thank you so much everyone
