Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Alzheimer's Disease is known as the living bereavement. Together with our amazing cousins - Julia, Jonathon, May and Emily - we know only too well what it is like to watch someone that you love lose the qualities and virtues that made them who they were. To watch them confused and scared as they live through a disease the steals their mind from them...slowly.
This page (we hope) is not for the purpose of wallowing in the misery that is Alzheimer's Disease, but to remember our mum, Gillian Ward, who Alzheimer's Disease stole from us.
Mum was born and grew up in London where we were born (I know you are all really pleased that she made us!) and we all moved to the seaside (Great Yarmouth) in the early eighties. Mum worked tirelessly running the great record shops of Great Yarmouth (you know the ones that played Daniel O'Donnel all day every day for the daytrippers!) before moving onto the restaurant business - although we think that the bar appealed to her more than the restaurant!
Mum's love (over and above us - possibly!) was her dogs - Seaside Samuel - her gorgeous red & white Border Collie - was her first love and together they stole the show on the local dog training scene. Many other much loved collies followed - I think they all knew that they didn't have a chance competing with the golden boy Sam. I think that we would both agree that we were more than a little worried that one of us was going to have to have Sam's ashes in a cupboard for the rest of our lives - for those of you who knew Mum during the dog training years, you'll be pleased to know that they will be making their final exit together (Seaside Samuel - so good he was creamted twice!)
Mum had the most wonderful grandchildren (okay - we might be a bit biased!) Scott, Jamie, Despina and Calum - although it was only Scott that really knew Mum for any amount of time, we know how much she would have loved all of them and how much they would have loved her!
Our wonderful Auntie, Heather Fisher, was also stolen by Alzheimers's Disease...she gave us our four amazing cousins Julia, Jonathan, May, Emily and very recently (on the 20th december) May gave us our gorgeous second cousin Amelia.
Our family has been hit by Alzheimer's Disease on a fairly major scale, we know that most people have been affected by it to some degree too. We would like everyone who's life has been touched my our mum, by our auntie or by anyone that has had Alzheimer's Disease to donate to Alzheimer's Society, the smallest donation could make a big difference - if one good thing can come from the suffering, please let it be more help for those living with Alzheimer's and their families and research into how we can slow down the effects of or cure such a terrible disease.
So please dig deep and donate now.
