Story
Doctors often have to deal with traumatic life and death situations at work, with little emotional or psychological support in the aftermath.
I cannot imagine how harrowing it was to treat the young children and mums who were maimed and killed at the Ariana Grande concert. Back-to-back shifts dealing with appalling situations, before returning to ‘business as usual’ once the dust has settled. So much is expected of these women and men.
These doctors are humans with families, mortgages, debts and emotional and psychological needs which are often neglected in the name of their vocation.
The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund provides medical students and doctors with psychological, practical and financial support, on a means-tested basis in times of need. Your donation could help a doctor with PTSD get therapy, or a medical student find financial breathing space to finish their training while supporting a young family.
I’m an NHS defence lawyer with numerous medical personnel in my immediate family. I know I want to be treated by a doctor who feels supported, safe and valued.
