Story
About Sophie
If you’ve ever crossed paths with Sophie - trust me, you will remember it. Sophie was the most unforgettable individual, she was so full of life, absolutely hilarious and downright stubborn (in the best way). Sophie didn’t waste a second of her life, she was always making plans, eating out, socialising with friends and spending time with her boyfriend and their dog Pickle - even when she was relaxing, she was never alone. Sophie was fiercely loyal to those she cared most about and would do anything to support her family and friends. Soph was constantly making everyone around her laugh, she was without doubt the funniest person we will ever know. Sophie loved her life, she seized it with both hands and she experienced everything. We will always love her.
Our Story
In 2018 our wonderful Sophie was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called Aplastic Anaemia. She underwent immunotherapy treatment and with a few daily challenges was managing her condition and continuing to live a full life. She’d moved to London with her boyfriend and had just landed her dream job.
Unfortunately towards the end of 2021 Sophie started feeling increasingly unwell, and during a trip to South Africa in January 2022 Sophie was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit, where it was confirmed that her condition had progressed and she had developed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Against all the odds Sophie fought against the disease, she was repatriated to the UK and full of hope that she would make a full recovery after undergoing Chemotherapy and a Stem Cell Transplant.
Unfortunately on the 16th June 2022, Sophie’s condition deteriorated and our lives were changed forever as we had to say Goodbye to the girl that we loved so much. Sophie fought bitterly until the end and we will never forget her.
The Cause
The Anthony Nolan charity supports individuals going through complex blood disorders and cancers requiring a stem cell transplant. The charity focuses on increasing the stem cell donor register, supporting groundbreaking research and managing post-transplant support and care. If we could contribute towards saving even just one person’s life and save family and friends from going through the same pain as us, we’d be so grateful. Please make a donation in honour of our beautiful Soph.
If you would also like to register as a stem cell donor, please visit the Anthony Nolan website.
