Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) or clicky hips, as it is often known, is a problem that if picked up early enough can be treated very simply with non-surgical means. However, with late diagnoses this can involve long complicated surgery, long periods in uncomfortable casts and potentially pain and disability in later years. STEPS is a charity working to raise awareness and to help parents understand what to look out for in DDH, as well as providing vital support for families of those children living with lower limb disorders.
For Baby Hip Health Awareness Week there is a group of children who have recently come through the ordeal of surgery and casts who are doing a walk in Reigate Priory Park on Wed 13 March to raise awareness to parents and raise money to support STEPS. Sophie, now 4.5 years old, has DDH and had a late diagnosis at 10 months. That meant 3 operations and 6 weeks in a full body cast. She is perfectly fine now and will be walking with the other younger children to show a child having come through the ordeal.
STEPS was a lifeline for us in terms of information on how to cope, as it is for loads of families.
