Contrary to the doc's advice, I've decided to (attempt to) run in this years 10k and run for a charity close to my heart. As staff of the University, I have the absolute privilege of being on the team that is leading on the University's First Gen campaign. That means not only do we raise money for deserving students who need our support, but we also have the honour of meeting the inspirational students on the scheme - they make all the hard work worthwhile.

I'm first gen and although my dad gave me reams of support and encouragement not only go on to HE, but also throughout my studies, I would have benefited massively had my University offered the additional support to help me kick start my career and open my eyes to available extra-curricular support and activities to help me develop. First Gen offers all of the above!

Help us continue to provide access to HE for deserving students - give to our campaign to provide a complete student journey of support for talented and deserving young people across Greater Manchester. 

Every penny raised goes towards additional elements of student support - a chancellorship and work place residential.
