Fundraising for The Fountain Centre
Story
On 19th May I will be climbing 249 steps of the Guildford Cathedral tower’s spiral staircase to then abseil 160ft to the ground below.
For someone with 2 false legs, only 6 fingers and a crippling fear of heights this is going to be a tough challenge for me, but what is even tougher is watching your loved ones battle cancer and the horrific effects cancer treatment inflicts on them.
Watching my fabulous Mum fight Ovarian cancer not once but twice was a harrowing time for all of us, the treatment she received from St Luke's Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey Hospital was amazing, we feel so lucky to have this facility right on our doorstep but Mum also owes so much to the wonderful support from The Fountain Centre. Although a Cancer diagnosis is probably one of the biggest fears we all face, it’s the effect the treatments have on your life that cause the most trauma, loosing your energy, your strength and your zest for life, pain, sickness and on top of that your identity, with hair loss and physical scars.
The Fountain centre offer cancer patients an essential support network, a place to feel relaxed and comfortable during treatment and throughout recovery. Offering alternative therapies, relaxation treatments an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.
Through my Permanent Makeup work I have met some inspirational people who are recovering from Cancer treatments, all of them share with my Mum their gratitude to the support of The Fountain Centre offers them.
So, this year I want to support The Fountain Centre, as a salute to my Mum and all of my friends and clients who have courageously battled cancer and the gruelling treatments associated with it and on behalf of all of them I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to the team and volunteers at the Fountain Centre for the wonderful work they do. I will climb those 249 steps for them, take in the wonderful panoramic views of my lovely home town of Guildford and say "Hello" to its famous 15ft tall Golden Angel… and then climb over the top of her, and abseil the 160 ft to the ground....
... In reality I'll probably breathlessly curse my Mum each and every step up the tower and mutter obscenities every foot of my decent. But with your help it will be worth my trauma, every penny I raise will ensure this essential service continues and the GoPro footage will probably be quite amusing to watch too!
