Story
The shortest distance from South Foreland (UK)to Cap Gros Nez (France) is 20 miles so 40 miles there and back. Between a team of 10 that’s 6437 metres each. Having finally started to get the hang of front crawl last year and being able to swim about 100 meters without getting out of breath I have decided to join a channel relay. Well a pretend one. On 20th July I will be swimming 6437 meters in Buckland Park in Surrey to raise funds for Us In A Bus a small charity who work to combat social isolation and support people living with learning disabilities and complex needs. Clearly I’ve got some preparation to do! Any donations for this worthy cause will be much appreciated.
Us in a Bus is a small local registered charity based out of Redhill Aerodrome. We support people who are often isolated and who find communicating with the world (and the people in it) a massive challenge. The people we support have profound and multiple learning disabilities, complex needs and sensory processing differences, requiring speciality assistance to build meaningful engagement with others. Our services enable the people we see to access life-enriching experiences and to participate in the everyday things we take for granted such as time with friends, expressing how we are feeling and making choices for ourselves. Using Intensive Interaction at a weekly session, our Interaction practitioners aim to cut through some of these complexities and concentrate on what makes us all the same; the need to connect and communicate with each other in a way that means something to us and that contributes positively to emotional well-being.
