This year, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team have chosen Alzheimer’s Research UK as their sponsored charity and I’ve decided to do something crazy to help this brilliant cause.

I would appreciate any donations you are able to give, large or small. Over the next several months up until the main event, I will be doing a bunch of activities to raise money - suggestions are always welcome so if there's something you've ever wanted to make me do, now is your chance! Either way, I will be training hard to make sure I reach that summit and I hope you join me on my journey on here and social media.

Alzheimer’s is the leading cause of dementia and accounts for around 95% of all cases. Currently an estimated 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK, with 50 million globally. This number is expected to increase to a staggering 152m by 2050 due to the increasing life expectancy of the world population. What’s more shocking is that 1 in 3 people born this year in the UK will develop dementia in their lifetime. (Statistics obtained from https://www.dementiastatistics.org/statistics-about-dementia/ )

If you, like me, have known anyone suffering from dementia, you will know how life changing this disease can be for both the individual and their loved ones. The loss of ability to perform everyday tasks as well as the loss of cherished memories is heartbreaking for anyone involved.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the leading light in the research of dementia - its causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Their mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025 and we can help them achieve this goal through fundraising, so please donate if you can.
